5-HTTLPR genotype and anxiety-related personality traits: a meta-analysis and new data is a large personality genetics study of the 5-HTTLPR polymorphism and harm avoidance from the TCI inventory as well as a meta-analysis of existing data on 5-HTTLPR and anxiety-related traits.

The study detected no significant association between 5-HTTLPR and harm avoidance.

The meta-analysis found:

  1. No association between 5-HTTLPR and harm avoidance
  2. No association between 5-HTTLPR and EPQ neuroticism
  3. Association between 5-HTTLPR NEO neuroticism

Since the publication of the meta-analysis in 2008 a very large single study has been published: Variants of the serotonin transporter gene and NEO-PI-R neuroticism: no association in the BLSA and SardiNIA samples and this study found no association between 5-HTTLPR and NEO PI-R neuroticism.

  • The study is included in the meta-analysis 5-HTTLPR genotype and anxiety-related personality traits: a meta-analysis and new data. (the original study in this paper is included in the same paper)

Group 1 of 2872 finnish adults were included in the study. The Finnish group had a mean age of 31 with a range from 30 to 31.

44% of the 3,872 were males. The subjects were part of "Northern Finland Birth Cohort" born in north Finland in 1966, originally consisting of 12,058. 3,872 completed TCI and had a successfull 5-HTTLPR genotyping.
