A functional polymorphism in the monoamine oxidase A gene promoter is a report on the MAOA-uVNTR genetic polymorphism

In Rethinking Behavior Genetics third author Dean H. Hamer writes that "this transcriptional variant had not been associated with personality traits" and cites the present study. However, the present study does not report much on personality: "In a preliminary analysis, we have found a trend toward association of high transcribing alleles of MAO-uVNTRn with self-reported depression and low mood" (page 277).
