Neural activation during response competition reports a functional magnetic resonance imaging study with the flanker task.

Contents

[edit] Subjects

Subject group #1 (help)
Participants
Subjects/♂/♀: 8 / 3 / 5
Age: 21.0 (18–24)
Handedness: Right
Nationality: define nationality
Approval: define approval
Databases:

Group 1 of 8 right-handed participants with 3 males and 5 females were included in the study. The group had a mean age of 21.0 with a range from 18 to 24.

[edit] Scanning

MRI Scanning (help)
Mode: fMRI
Scanner: GE 1.5T
Type: T2*-weighted Gradient-echo spiral pulse

(TR=1440ms, TE=40ms, FA=80°)

Slices: 16 (thickness=7mm , gap=0mm) oriented sagittal
Size: FOV=112mm
Laboratory: missing laboratory

For fMRI T2*-weighted Gradient-echo spiral pulse scans were acquired with a 1.5T GE scanner..

Functional data were acquired every 2.88 second.

[edit] Conditions

Psychoexperimental condition #1 (help)
Name: Congruent flanking circles
Stimulus: Flanking (Visual stimulus)
Instruction: Respond as quickly and accurately as possible to the center circle ignoring the flanking circles
Behavioral response: Left hand keypress (Hand response)
In condition no. 1, Congruent flanking circles, the subjects were presented with a Visual stimulus. They were instructed to Respond as quickly and accurately as possible to the center circle ignoring the flanking circles. The subjects responded with Left hand keypress.
Psychoexperimental condition #2 (help)
Name: Incongruent flanking circles
Stimulus: Flanking circles (Visual stimulus)
Instruction: Respond as quickly and accurately as possible to the center circle ignoring the flanking circles
Behavioral response: Left hand keypress (Hand response)
In condition no. 2, Incongruent flanking circles, the subjects were presented with a Visual stimulus. They were instructed to Respond as quickly and accurately as possible to the center circle ignoring the flanking circles. The subjects responded with Left hand keypress.

There were 120 trials:

  • 10 epochs of either congruent or incongruent flanking circles, with each epoch consisting of 12 trials:
    • 1 trials consisted of:
      • 1 second stimuli
      • 0.44 second fixation cross.

[edit] Results

Brain scans were analyze with SPM96., though motion corrected with AIR.
