Group 4 of 10 cognitively unimpaired depressed were included in the study. The group had a mean age of 53.2.

There were two subject groups: Depressed and age-matched controls. Of the 33 in the depressed group there were 10 with associated severe cognitive impairment as evaluated with the Mini-Mental State Examination below or equal to 25. These were compared with a depressed group of 10 patient without cognitive impairment with a score higher than or equal to 29.
